Khalid Yafai: Set for pro debut on July 7

Amateur star Khalid Yafai has linked up with promoter Eddie Hearn as he prepares to launch his professional career.

Yafai represented Great Britain in the Bejing Olympics, losing to eventual silver medallist Andry Laffita of Cuba, but he has decided to join the paid ranks after failing to qualify for this summer's Games.

The 22-year-old flyweight, who has won a World junior title and three European silver medals, makes his debut on the undercard of Kell Brook's welterweight clash with Carson Jones on July 7.

"It's a massive show and a fantastic opportunity and the sort of night all fighters want to appear in," said Yafai.

"It's a huge showcase for my talent on the very first night and I can't thank Eddie enough for putting me on such a huge bill in my first fight.

"It's a new chapter in my career and it's what I've wanted to do since I started boxing - to turn pro and become a world champion."
