Teofilo Stevenson: Won three Olympic gold medals

Cuba's three-time Olympic heavyweight champion Teofilo Stevenson has died at the age of 60, according to reports.

Stevenson, considered one of the greatest ever fighters never to turn professional, won gold at Munich 1972, Montreal 1976 and Moscow 1980.

A hotly-anticipated bout against Muhammad Ali was touted in the 70s but he refused to relinquish his amateur status and the fight never took place.

A statement carried by Latin American news station TeleSUR read: "The Cuban boxer Teofilo Stevenson, one of the leading boxers in the history of amateur boxing, died Monday at the age 60 of a heart attack. The outstanding athlete won the Olympic gold medal three times."
