Jason Booth: Will take on Willie Casey

Jason Booth: Will take on Willie Casey

Former British and Commonwealth champion Jason Booth will now headline the Summer Rumble 2 card in Sunderland on July 15.

The English bantamweight title bout between Martin Ward and Mike Robinson had been scheduled to be the feature fight at the Stadium of Light.

However with Ward having been forced to pull out through injury, former world title challenger Booth will step up to take on Ireland's Willie Casey for the WBO inter-continental super-bantamweight belt.

"I'm devastated for Martin Ward who was supposed to box Mike Robinson for the English bantamweight title on the show," said promoter Phil Jeffries.

"He's hurt his hand in training and there's nothing we can do about it. I'm hoping to get that fight rearranged for September.

"The headline fight we've now got has all the makings of a classic though and is a top-class replacement. Jason Booth is a lovely little boxer who is known in the game for his great technical ability, whereas Casey is a come forward fighter and a real puncher."
