Michael Carberry: Unbeaten on 84

Michael Carberry: Unbeaten on 84

Rain and bad light meant only 10 overs were bowled on the third day of Hampshire's LV= County Championship second division match with Leicestershire at the Ageas Bowl.

Hampshire's fifth-wicket pair of Michael Carberry and Sean Ervine added a further 36 runs before more rain called a premature halt.

Carberry, this time batting without the aid of a runner, took his score from 73 not out to 84 and the more aggressive Ervine went from 17 not out to 41.

The previous day Carberry, recalled to the England Lions squad for the match against the West Indies next month, struggled to run because of the effects of cramp and a groin injury.

Leicestershire employed leg break bowler Kadeer Ali when play started at 3.40pm and pace bowler Nadeem Malik but neither looked like succeeding in overcast conditions and on a wet outfield.

Later Robbie Joseph's pace was brought into the attack in place of Kadeer, also without hint of a breakthrough.

With only one day remaining the match is heading for a draw. Hampshire are 217 for four from 55 overs, still 17 behind the Leicestershire first-innings total of 234 all out made on the first day and some of the second.
