There was yet more frustration for Sussex and Lancashire, who have yet to start their LV= County Championship Division One game at Hove after yet another washout.

Umpires Mark Benson and Nick Cook carried out three inspections and called off the third day's play shortly after 3pm.

Rival captains Mike Yardy and Glen Chapple were keen to get under way after a day of drying winds and sunshine, but the umpires remain worried about the players' safety with run-ups a particular concern.

With a dry forecast, the hope is that the game will finally get under way on Saturday, but with just a day left, it is likely to be a battle for bonus points.

Sussex have played for just 42.1 overs in the last eight days of scheduled first-class cricket at Hove.
