Chris Gayle: Struck six maximums

Chris Gayle: Struck six maximums

Royal Challengers Bangalore moved into the Indian Premier League play-off places with a comfortable 35-run win over the hapless Pune Warriors.

Bangalore were on course once openers Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan smashed quickfire half-centuries to help set 173 for three.

Gayle clubbed 57 from 31 balls, clearing the ropes six times, as he made Dilshan's 44-ball 53 seem sedate by comparison.

Pune simply did not have the firepower to match with their overseas stars Michael Clarke (13) and Angelo Mathews (four) failing to fire in their 138 for nine.

Robin Uthappa's brisk 38 was the highlight but it could not prevent Pune falling to a seventh consecutive defeat.
