Andrew Strauss: struggled for runs over the winter

England managing director Hugh Morris is confident that Test captain Andrew Strauss will rediscover his best form this summer.

Strauss struggled with the bat as England were whitewashed 3-0 against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates before their 1-1 draw in Sri Lanka.

Yet Morris is convinced the 35-year-old left-hander can prove the critics wrong in England's three-Test series against West Indies, which gets under way at Lord's on Thursday, and South Africa.

"He's an outstanding leader of people, he's an outstanding player, he's played nearly 100 Test matches for England and I think that says a lot about his capabilities as a player," Morris told Sky Sports.

"As a leader he's been one of the best captains England have ever had - I'm happy and contented with the way he's leading the team.

"All batsmen need runs for sure, that is for sure, and that won't be lost on Andrew.

"We've got no doubt in our minds that he's going to have an exciting and exceptional summer for us."
