England defeated India by 33 runs in the first NatWest Women's Twenty20 international, played at Canterbury.

Sarah Taylor (69) and Laura Marsh (41) top-scored as England posted 137 for five.

India could only respond with 104 for eight, with Mithali Raj's 26 the major contribution. Pace bowler Katherine Brunt took two wickets for 21 runs.

The second and final match in the series takes place at Chelmsford on Thursday.
