The West Indies completed a 4-1 one-day series win over New Zealand with a 20-run victory at Basseterre.
Dwayne Bravo battled to 53 and shared in half-century stands with Marlon Samuels (43) and Devon Thomas (20) before Andre Russell's muscular half-century set up a competitive total of 241 for nine.
Kane Williamson (69) threatened to lead New Zealand home but spinner Sunil Narine turned the game the West Indies' way with five for 27.
Windies openers Johnson Charles (15) and Chris Gayle (five) fell cheaply and Dwayne Smith (nine) failed to overturn a leg-before decision on review as Tim Southee's second wicket of three left the hosts in trouble..
It was slow going for Samuels and, in particular, Bravo but they took the total past 50 and then eased the pressure with a six and a four respectively off Rob Nicol.
Both offered difficult return catches which were dropped before the 50 partnership came up, and a loose drive by Samuels was then superbly caught by Martin Guptill.
Bravo struggled to 21 from 64 balls before heaving Nicol for six as he shared in his second 50 stand, but Thomas fell when Southee took a diving catch in the deep at the second attempt.
Bravo completed an 89-ball half-century before chipping Andrew Ellis straight to mid-wicket.
Russell hit Williamson for six and four and then hammered two Ellis full tosses beyond the ropes as he made 59 from 40 balls, his second-highest ODI score.
Nicol fell to the second ball of the Kiwi innings for two, Bravo with a sharp catch off Tino Best's bowling.
But Brendon McCullum made a rapid start with four early boundaries before Guptill hit first Best and then Russell for six.
The partnership reached 50 in the eighth over but Narine deceived McCullum (33) into edging to slip.
And the spinner then trapped Guptill lbw for 33, a decision upheld after a referral, the ball after beating him through the gate.
Captain Ross Taylor hit three boundaries and put on 31 with Williamson but was unluckily stumped for 28, overbalancing forwards as a quicker ball from Samuels rebounded into the stumps off Thomas' pads.
Williamson and Tom Latham put on 31 before the latter nicked Bravo to Thomas, meaning the batting powerplay started with the Black Caps 140 for six and needing 102 from 15 overs.
Williamson pulled Best for his fourth boundary to bring up a 69-ball half-century and had good support from Ellis, but the required run-rate was still climbing and they needed somebody to emulate Russell's fireworks.
Thirteen came from the 42nd over and the 50 stand came up in the next, from 47 balls, before Bravo dropped Ellis.
But Williamson fell victim to a stunning diving catch at short mid-wicket by Gayle, who plunged to his right to snatch a full-blooded pull one-handed.
And that proved the key moment and Ellis (28) and Kyle Mills (one) were both bowled by Narine and the Black Caps were dismissed for 221, Trent Boult falling to the last ball of the innings.
