Michael Laudrup: Confirmed as Swansea boss on Friday

Michael Laudrup: Confirmed as Swansea boss on Friday

Swansea City defender Garry Monk has hailed new boss Michael Laudrup as the man to push the Swans forward.

The 48-year-old enjoyed a successful playing career gaining 104 caps for Denmark and winning titles with Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Ajax.

The Danish legend, who has previous managerial experience at Brondby, Getafe, Spartak Moscow, Real Mallorca, is Swansea's third manager in four years.

Laudrup penned a two-year deal on Friday replacing new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers and Monk revealed the squad is excited to work with the former Barcelona and Real Madrid midfielder.

"Its a great appointment for Swansea City," Monk told Swansea's official website.

"When you look at the candidates for the job, he was perfect choice.

"With the way we play, I don't think there are too many managers out there that believe in the style and system."

As well as assisting the Denmark senior side Laudrup's managerial credentials include domestic Danish league titles with Brondby and a Uefa Cup quarter-final with Spanish outfit Getafe.

Monk believes this experience can only benefit a young Swansea side.

He added: "The experience he has got as a player and also a manager already will be invaluable to the development of this group of players."
