France's defeat by Sweden in their final Euro 2012 Group D game has taken the shine off reaching the quarter-finals, according to the nation's newspapers.
The 2-0 reverse and England's 1-0 win over co-hosts Ukraine has led to Les Blues lining up against reigning champions Spain on Saturday while England will take on Italy the following day.
But despite the poor showing against Sweden there is still optimism amongst the French press.
Le Parisien states: "Qualified, but they must show another face against Spain" but from Le Figaro there is the more downbeat "the Blues qualify without shine".
That is echoed by The Dauphine's headline "The Blues qualified but humiliated" and La Depeche du Midi's "Humbled but qualified".
Eastern Republican sums France's performance up as "Defined by losing!" and the Telegram dismisses it as "France without panache."
