WOLVES WAIT FOR KIGHTLY NEWS

Michael Kightly: Injury worry

Wolves boss Terry Connor is hoping to be given positive news regarding the ankle injury picked up by Michael Kightly on Saturday.

The midfielder, who has endured a nightmare time with knocks in recent seasons, was forced off towards the end of a 2-1 defeat at Norwich.

A mistimed challenge from Grant Holt cut Kightly's afternoon short and saw the Canaries striker shown a second yellow card.

Wolves were unable to make the most of their numerical advantage in the closing stages at Carrow Road, but hope they will be boosted by the swift return to training of Kightly.

"We're hoping it's not too bad," Connor told the club's official website.

"It was like a numbing effect after the match, we weren't sure of the damage.

"The blow must have hit a nerve as he couldn't quite feel his ankle so we took him off as there was only four or five minutes left."

Should Kightly find himself back on the treatment table he will add to Connor's mounting injury troubles, with eight senior players already out of action.

There is a chance that Wolves will look to ease those problems by recalling Adam Hammill from a loan spell at Middlesbrough once he has completed an initial 28-day stint.

Boro boss Tony Mowbray told the Evening Gazette on a player who has agreed to see out the season at the Riverside Stadium: "I think the situation is what it is.

"If Wolves want to take him back he is their player and there's not a lot we can do about it.

"If Wolves think he can impact on their season and help them stay in the Premier League, then that's their prerogative.

"He's their player. Obviously it would benefit us more if he stayed. But if they take him back, they take him back and we'll get on with it."
