Steven Pienaar: Has impressed on his return

Steven Pienaar: Has impressed on his return

David Moyes believes Steven Pienaar wants to stay at Everton beyond this season, but is unsure about his prospects of keeping the midfielder.

Pienaar returned to Goodison Park in January on loan from Tottenham, just 12 months after originally leaving for White Hart Lane.

The South African has thrived since heading back to Merseyside and Moyes is keen to have the 30-year-old as part of his long-term plans again.

Moyes will discuss the issue with Pienaar and Spurs at the end of the season, but he believes the player does want to stick with the Toffees.

"I don't know if we have, or haven't got a chance of keeping Steven Pienaar yet," said Moyes after Pienaar impressed in Saturday's 4-0 win over Fulham.

"We'll try after the season finishes. I'm sure we would all like to keep him, and I actually think Steven would like to stay.

"If that's the case it gives us a chance to make it happen, obviously he's owned by Tottenham Hotspur but he's told me he wants to stay.

"You can see how terrific he was against Fulham. He created two goals and all around he looks as if he enjoys his football and feels appreciated. What he does is exceptional."
