Dundee United celebrate Scott Robertson's winner.

Dundee United celebrate Scott Robertson's winner.

Scott Robertson's first-half header gave Dundee United a 1-0 victory over Celtic in their Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier league clash at Tannadice.

In the 21st minute the United midfielder met a Paul Dixon cross to send a header past Hoops keeper Fraser Forster.

A much-changed Celtic side huffed and puffed for most of the game and Anthony Stokes passed up their best chance seconds before the interval when he missed the ball altogether yards from goal.

In Sunday's other match, Hearts beat St Johnstone 2-0 to climb above their opponents into fifth place and go close to clinching a Europa League place next season.

In Hearts' final home game of the season and with many saying possible farewells to Tynecastle, Rudi Skacel converted Ryan McGowan's cross after 21 minutes for his 16th goal of the season and Andy Webster netted a second after 58 minutes as the William Hill Scottish Cup finalists ended a three-match winless run.

Saints, who have now gone six games without tasting victory, must now beat Rangers at home on next Sunday's final day of the season and hope Hearts lose at Celtic to prevent the capital club finishing fifth.
