Keith Andrews: May yet stay at West Brom

Keith Andrews: May yet stay at West Brom

West Brom midfielders Paul Scharner and Keith Andrews may yet have a future at the club, according to sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth.

The managerless Baggies have already released four players since the end of the campaign, while Marc-Antoine Fortune, Jerome Thomas, Simon Cox, Luke Daniels and Romaine Sawyers were all offered one-year options that were written in their contracts.

Andrews and Scharner as well as goalkeeper Marton Fulop did not have such an option written into their deals and were widely expected to leave when their contracts expire on June 30.

Fulop has already admitted he intends to move abroad this summer but the futures of Scharner and Andrews are less certain.

Ashworth has revealed they may yet stay at the club, with potential contract talks delayed until a new manager is in place.

"Neither Paul nor Keith had an option to trigger," Ashworth said. "While we're in a position where we do not have a permanent head coach, we are holding open the possibility of negotiations to enable both players to come back."
