Forster: Four-year deal

Forster: Four-year deal

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has expressed delight over securing goalkeeper Fraser Forster on a permanent deal.

Celtic have confirmed Forster has signed a four-year contract, although the player himself had already done so earlier in the week.

Forster has spent the last two seasons on loan at Celtic Park from Newcastle but the end of his long-running saga over his permanent transfer confirms the club's first summer signing.

Lennon told the club's official website: "We are delighted that Fraser has committed his future to the club and we believe he will be a magnificent addition to the squad.

"He gives us that continuity so this is something we are really pleased about. He is a top-class keeper."

Forster, 24, added: "This is a massive club and I feel like this is a step forward in my career.

"I want to win things as a team and improve as an individual and I think I will be able to do that at Celtic.

"It also gives me a great opportunity to play in the Champions League if we get through the qualifiers. I really enjoyed my time in Europe last season so I will be looking forward to it if it happens again.

"I enjoyed last season as a whole and we have a great young squad here.

"The players and the coaches make it an enjoyable place to be and I like being a part of this team."(reopens) Meanwhile, Celtic will launch their 125th anniversary celebrations with a friendly against Inter Milan, the team they famously beat in the 1967 European Cup final.

The match will take place at Parkhead on July 28, seven days before the start of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League season.

Lennon said: "History is something to respect and to cherish and we are delighted therefore to be celebrating 125 years of Celtic in such a manner.

"The match will be a magnificent event where we welcome some top players to Glasgow and, of course, honour those who have played such an important role in Celtic´s past.

"It is magnificent that Celtic is able to bring such a big name to Scottish football and I am sure this will be an occasion which our supporters, across many generations, will wish to experience.

"From my perspective, as well as being a very poignant fixture, this will also be a real test for my team and one they are looking forward to immensely.

"The next few weeks are very important to us as we prepare for the new season and, of course, European football - the match against Inter will be an important element in our preparation."

Billy McNeill, who captained Celtic in their Lisbon win over Inter, said: "Myself and the other members of the Lisbon Lions team are fortunate enough to have a place in Celtic´s history and we are very proud to have played our part in the last 125 years.

"Celtic in our minds will always be one of the world´s greatest clubs in terms of its origins, its proud history of success, its spirit and of course its supporters.

"It will be all these things which we will celebrate on July 28 and what better way to do it, than against one of the other great names in European football."
