Tom Cleverley: Enjoyed his first pre-season appearance against Hannover

Tom Cleverley: Enjoyed his first pre-season appearance against Hannover

Tom Cleverley says he is feeling '100 per cent' after playing at the Olympics and is looking forward to the new season with Manchester United.

The midfielder was part of the Team GB squad which reached the quarter-finals at the Olympics, but he is now back with United ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign.

He made his first appearance of pre-season on Saturday when he started the 4-3 win over Hannover and he was pleased to be involved with his club again.

"I've been away for a few weeks now but to come back into a good game in a good stadium and be playing with the world-class players we've got only helps your game, so it's good to be back," Cleverley told MUTV.

"I think the Olympics has been good for me. I've got six games under my belt including the two friendlies so I feel 100 per cent. I'm happy and looking forward to the season."

United assistant boss Mike Phelan praised Cleverley's performance against Hannover, with the game also seeing the return of Team GB captain Ryan Giggs.

Phelan said: "I thought Tom looked very, very sharp. He's played quite a few games for the GB team so he's probably ahead of schedule in some respects.

"Ryan probably needs to feel his way through it a little bit more, but Tom played a very, very good game for us."

United open their Premier League campaign next Monday at Everton, where Cleverley suffered an injury last season which kept him out for several months.
