Hamilton: Looking ahead to 100th race

Lewis Hamilton is adamant his British Grand Prix heartache is now behind him as he looks forward to his 100th race in Formula One.

Hamilton will become the 61st driver in the 63-season history of the sport to join the ton-up club when he competes in the German Grand Prix next weekend.

The 27-year-old would naturally love to be heading to Hockenheim on the back of a strong result at Silverstone, but a woeful lack of pace resulted in Hamilton winding up a miserable eighth in his McLaren, with team-mate Jenson Button 10th.

Hamilton has since been distracted by other events as he said: "I was quick to get over our disappointing weekend, running with the Olympic flame on Monday and then turning my full attention to Hockenheim.

"Unbelievably, next weekend will mark my 100th Grand Prix. That's incredible, because I still remember my first as if it were only yesterday. I guess Formula One has that effect on you."

For McLaren, Hamilton and Button, the back-to-back races at Hockenheim and in Hungary ahead of the summer break have become pivotal to their season.

A failure to score podiums and a significant amount of points will further impact on any hopes of taking the titles.

Although "a more visible" upgrade package is due on the car in Germany, Hamilton said: "It was very tough for us to have such a poor finish in our home Grand Prix.

"We've some work to do, but I'm looking forward to going to the German Grand Prix where I hope we can have a better race.

"The guys in front - Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes and Lotus - have all picked up a lot of pace, and we're behind all of them at the moment."
