Florentyna Parker: Shares the early lead

Florentyna Parker: Shares the early lead

Karen Lunn, Florentyna Parker, Steffi Kirchmayr and Elena Giraud shared the lead after the first round of the Deloitte Ladies Open in Rotterdam.

Parker, the 2010 champion, put herself firmly in the hunt once again with a 68, responding to an early bogey with five birdies.

Starting on the back nine, the English player dropped a shot at the 12th but birdied three of the last five holes on the back nine. Two more birdies at six and seven saw her join the leaders.

"I'm thrilled," she told ladieseuropeantour.com. "I didn't feel like I was playing too well to begin with but I got it going and holed a few putts and made a few birdies and just had one bogey on 12, which was the only mistake.

"I love the place, I love the course and it's time again for me to win!"

Giraud opened with a bogey at the 10th but also responded with five birdies while Lunn and Kirchmayr both produced bogey-free rounds.

Kirchmayr also started at the back nine and made her four birdies in six holes leading up to the turn while Lunn took advantage of the Broekpolder club's reachable par fives, as she explained afterwards.

"I made four birdies: three of them were on the par-fives that were tap-ins," said the Australian.

"I hit 18 in two and two-putted, on six I knocked it short of the green and putted up to a foot, then on 14 I was just short of the green and then chipped up to a foot.

"Three birdies were very straightforward and on 17 I made a 10-footer. I made some nice par saves and when I missed greens I got up and down.

"I putted really nicely so I'm not complaining. It's not the longest course but it's quite tricky and you have to hit fairways."

Parker's compatriot Hannah Burke and Italian Diana Luna are a shot behind in a tie for fifth place and Christel Boeljon leads the home challenge after a 70 left her alongside Alison Whitaker, Anja Monke and England's Felicity Johnson.
