Northern Ireland's amazing recent golfing success has continued with Alan Dunbar becoming only their third player to win the British amateur title in a championship history that dates back to 1885.
The Walker Cup player from Rathmore - the club where Graeme McDowell learnt the game - beat Austria's Matthias Schwab on the final green of the 36-hole final at Royal Troon to earn himself places in next month's Open and next year's Masters and US Open.
McDowell, Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke have all become major champions in the last two years, but the two previous Northern Irishmen to lift the Amateur trophy were Garth McGimpsey in 1985 and Michael Hoey in 2001.
