Brittany Lang: Claimed her first victory on the LPGA Tour

Brittany Lang: Claimed her first victory on the LPGA Tour

Brittany Lang held her nerve to finally claim her first win on the LPGA Tour at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic at the Grey Silo course in Ontario.

The American saw off Korean trio Seo Hee-kyung, Inbee Park and Chella Choi in a three-hole play-off to break her duck at the 144th attempt in her seventh year on the tour.

The four players finished level on 16 under par after 72 holes, leaving them to replay the 18th until a winner was found, and Park, who had taken a two-stroke lead into the final round, was the first player eliminated.

Lang and Seo shared the hole in birdies the second time round, meaning Choi's eight-under-par final round of 63 was not rewarded with a winner's cheque.

Lang then birdied the par five for the third time in succession, hitting a bunker shot to two feet to set up the chance, to finally shake off Seo and claim the first prize of 195,000 US dollars (£125,000). The three runners-up each earned 90,231 dollars (£58,000).

The victory makes Lang the fourth first-time winner on the tour this year, following fellow American Jessica Korda, Spain's 2010 rookie of the year Azahara Munoz and Chinese world number four Shanshan Feng.

American Stacy Lewis and a fourth Korean, Ryu So-yeon, shared fifth place on 15 under with Feng a further shot back along with Sweden's Anna Nordqvist.

Hur Mi-jung made it five Koreans in the top 10, which was completed by Sandra Changkija and Karin Sjodin in a share of 10th
