Wetherby: Sunday card called off

Wetherby: Sunday card called off

Officials at Wetherby have been forced to abandon Sunday's meeting due to a waterlogged track.

With the drainage system full, clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson revealed there were areas of standing water on the track on Friday afternoon.

He was keen to give the fixture every chance and called a further inspection for 11am on Saturday morning, but he has been forced to admit defeat.

Sanderson said: "Unfortunately, we've just had to make the decision to abandon.

"We've seen some improvement overnight, as we thought we would, but there is still standing water on various areas of the track and it isn't going to improve sufficiently.

"We'd end up with unstable areas of ground and I think the best decision is to pull the plug now."
