TIMEFORM: CAMELOT HAS TO IMPROVE

Camelot: Has to improve

Camelot: Has to improve

Camelot might well have dominated the ante-post betting for the 2,000 Guineas all winter, but Timeform are of the opinion that he has to improve on his Racing Post Trophy win if he's to provide Aidan O'Brien with a first win in a British Classic since Henrythenavigator in 2008.

Timeform's Flat Editor David Johnson explained: "There's no doubt that Camelot has lots of potential after winning both starts as a 2-y-o with plenty in hand, but the Guineas is likely to be run in very different fashion to the Racing Post Trophy and there have to be concerns whether he proves vulnerable to more specialist milers.

"He comes here with a similar profile to St Nicholas Abbey, but it's worth pointing out that St Nicholas Abbey beat a stronger field at Doncaster, and actually came into the race with a weight-adjusted rating of 141p.

"Camelot currently trades at around 2-1 on Betfair, but I'd be looking for bigger than 5-2 to be tempted to support him."

Camelot has 5lb to find with recent Craven winner Trumpet Major, who is the Timeform top-rated, but he himself is short of average Guineas winning standard at the moment.

Johnson added: "Even without taking Frankel's wide-margin success last year into account, to win an average Guineas an adjusted rating of 139 is likely to be required, so as well as using the ratings, punters also need to consider which horses are likely to improve further under Saturday's conditions."

To win the 2,000 Guineas - Betfair betting: 2-1 Camelot, 8-1 Abtaal, 10-1 French Fifteen, Trumpet Major, Born To Sea, 12-1 Power, 15-1 Top Offer, 24-1 Fencing, Hermival, 29-1 Caspar Netscher, 45-1 Bronterre, 54-1 Talwar, 129-1 Coupe De Ville, 149-1 Red Duke, Boomerang Bob, 179-1 Saigon, 299-1 Redact, 519-1 Ptolemaic
