Richard Fahey: Trains Tatlisu

Richard Fahey: Trains Tatlisu

Tatlisu gave his owners, the Middleham Park Racing Club, a welcome boost ahead of a massive weekend as he triumphed in the EBF Strides Ahead At RZ Group Maiden Stakes at Musselburgh.

The familiar sky blue silks will be carried in a Classic for the first time when Lily's Angel, trained like Tatlisu by Richard Fahey at Malton, runs in the Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Tatlisu looked short of room as the race began to take shape but Paul Hanagan got a dream run up the rail on the 4-1 chance and once allowed to stretch out, he beat the strong-travelling Boxing Shadows by three-quarters of a length.

"He'd shown plenty at home and had been working well," said Middleham Park's Tim Palin.

"He's got a very long stride and was only able to use it once he got in the clear.

"We've bought plenty of Red Clubs (progeny), they're pretty cheap but we like him as a stallion.

"Richard put him in most of the early closing races and I suppose he'll be stepped up in class now."

Mark Johnston's Prussian (3-1 favourite) was arguably the class act on show in the semichem.co.uk Handicap.

Having only her third start off a mark of 78, she was prominent throughout before Joe Fanning kicked for home with two of the nine furlongs left to beat Silver Blaze and Clayton into second and third respectively.

Johnston mentioned a possible tilt at the Edinburgh Gold Cup for the two-length winner.

Fresh from riding his first winner on the Flat 24 hours earlier, Grand National-winning jockey Graham Lee repeated the dose on Jim Goldie's Staff Sergeant (11-2)) in the Core (Oil And Gas) Ltd Handicap.

Lee got his fractions spot-on from the front to hold off Lucky Windmill by a length and three-quarters.

La Bacouetteuse (14-1) provided fledgling trainer Iain Jardine with just his third winner on the level in the Au Revoir Colin Shand Handicap.

"I had a couple run well at Sedgefield the other night so they're all running well," said the Borders handler.

"I spoke to David Allan earlier today and I thought the race would be set up for him as he stays all day."
