Takar: Impressed at The Curragh

Takar: Impressed at The Curragh

The Abu Dhabi Irish 2,000 Guineas is under consideration for Takar following his impressive display at the Curragh on Monday.

The Oratorio colt won by a full eight lengths on his final juvenile start and was the hot favourite to make a winning return in the Listed Tetrarch Stakes.

Ridden confidently by Johnny Murtagh, John Oxx's charge showed a sharp change of gear to come from last to first in the final furlong and win handsomely.

Oxx said: "He didn't beat a vintage field but he'd had a couple of setbacks and was just ready to run.

"We were pleased he produced a good turn of foot in the ground conditions.

"He's a tough little fellow with a good cruising speed and he quickens up well.

"The Irish Guineas is possible, we'll see how things go over the next couple of weeks."

Another Oxx inmate to run creditably on the same card was Sharestan, who placed third in a controversial running of the Mooresbridge Stakes.

Both he and hot favourite St Nicholas Abbey failed to reel in the Ballydoyle pacemaker Windsor Castle having been settled way off the pace.

"Sharestan just didn't quite get home over 10 furlongs in that ground, but it was a messy affair, as everybody could see," said Oxx.

"He got stuck in behind St Nicholas Abbey who wasn't really going forward so he had a lot to do, a bit too much perhaps.

"He did quicken up very well as if he was going to sweep up to the two in front, but he just emptied in the last 100 yards.

"Back on good ground I think he'll stay 10 furlongs."
