Penitent: Group One opportunity

Penitent: Group One opportunity

Penitent could be given the chance to prove himself at Group One level in the Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp on May 27.

The six-year-old has been a revelation since being bought by Middleham Park Racing from the Cheveley Park Stud and out of William Haggas' stable for 40,000 guineas.

Now trained by David O'Meara, he opened up with a Listed success in the Doncaster Mile at Town Moor and then recorded a Group Two victory in the bet365 Mile at Sandown last month.

With Penitent's liking for cut in the ground, O'Meara is likely to choose the Paris race over an extended nine and a half furlongs.

"He's done really well for us and he's in good form. We might go to France a week on Sunday for the Prix d'Ispahan," said the North Yorkshire handler.
