Camelot: Can retain his unbeaten record

Camelot: Can retain his unbeaten record

  • Winners have been priced between 5-4 and 6-1 with three successful favourites.

  • All of the winners finished either first or second on their preceding start, eight were successful.
  • Winners had raced between two and seven times with seven having between two and four career starts.
  • Only one of the last 10 winners was unbeaten; five had only been beaten on debut.
  • Eight of the last 10 winners had been beaten no more than once.
  • All of the last 10 winners had raced as a juvenile, making their debuts no earlier than July.
  • Nine of the last 10 winners had won at Group Three level or higher.

    Summary

Three of the last 10 winners (all in the last seven years) finished either first or second in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas while three winners also won the Racing Post Trophy as a juvenile.

Six Racing Post Trophy winners have lined up in the past decade; two of those that were beaten here had been defeated since Doncaster leaving those who had continued to enjoy success with an impressive strike rate in this Classic.

Camelot claimed both races and, although the Guineas/Derby double is rarely achieved, he promises to be out of the top drawer as was the last horse (Sea The Stars) to win both contests.

The Dante Stakes has the best recent record of the trials and there is nothing wrong with Bonfire's profile but Main Sequence would be defying a major statistic having progressed through the handicap ranks.
