DOUBLE: Barkston Ash and Hezmah
Barkston Ash made a sudden return to form at Hamilton last week and is worthy of support back at the Lanarkshire circuit.
The Eric Alston-trained four-year-old had shown next to nothing since winning at Warwick 11 months ago - the last of four victories in 2011 - but is now back at an appealing mark.
Barkston Ash is now rated 3lb inferior than when he was successful last July and is clearly on the comeback trail judged by his game second over course and distance last Tuesday.
The fact Hamilton has escaped the worst of the bad weather is a good thing, as is Jason Hart's 7lb claim, which makes him an attractive prospect for the Steps And Peter Andre Live On Sat 7 July Handicap.
Fittingly-named filly Economic Crisis can later do the business in the hamilton-park.co.uk Handicap.
Alan Berry's well-tried three-year-old is still a maiden after 17 tries, but knows the time of day in races of this nature and turned in one of her best displays when third in a far better race than this at Chester last month.
Economic Crisis was always close to the pace on the Roodee, so connections may be tempted to go even further by making all of the running - a ploy which often works so well at Hamilton.
Although connections can feel hard done by after she went up 4lb, Graham Lee's appointment at least heightens the sense of optimism.
An honourable mention must also go to Hezmah, who should be sharp enough to win the BetVictor For Euro 2012 Handicap at Yarmouth.
The four-year-old Oasis Dream filly was narrowly denied by Close To The Edge on firm ground at Newcastle on May 31 - her first start since last August - for which she has risen just 1lb.
John Gosden's runner also handles cut in the ground, as evidenced at Goodwood last season, and was arguably the moral winner at Gosforth Park as Tadhg O'Shea perhaps delayed his challenge until it was too late.
L'Ami Louis looks her biggest danger at the summit of the weights, but the Hamdan Al Maktoum camp must surely be expecting her to gain redemption by the seaside.
Winner's Wish is one of the tastier possibilities on Haydock's card.
Trained in Shalfleet by Jeremy Noseda, the three-year-old filly made a seamless transition to a mile and a half at Sandown last month when she galloped two and a quarter lengths clear in a fair-looking handicap.
Winner's Wish is 5lb higher for the Northern Trust Investment, Development, Land Regeneration Handicap, but her potential over this longer trip should help offset that burden.
Although the ground was very quick at Sandown, she won at Bath in her salad days when the mud was flying so that might not be too big a deal for this daughter of Clodovil.
The laudably reliable First Bid can make a successful all-weather return in the Betdaq Mobile Apps Handicap at Kempton, while Zaplamation should be suitably revved up for the Infinity - tyregiant.com Handicap at Beverley.
