Edinburgh Knight: Can take advantage of his handicap mark

Edinburgh Knight: Can take advantage of his handicap mark

We analyse the last 10 renewals of the Betfair Summer Double International Stakes at Ascot on Saturday and pick out the key statistics.

  • Winners have been aged three, four (7) and five (2).
  • Winners have carried between 7-12 and 9-7 with seven carrying between 8-6 and 9-7.
  • Winners have been rated between 88 and 106 with eight rated between 93 and 106.
  • Nine of the last 10 winners had won over the distance.
  • Seven of the last 10 winners had won over a mile.
  • All the winners had either won or been placed in a class two handicap.
  • Six winners finished in the first four on their preceding outing with three winning.
  • Nine of the last 10 winners ran at Royal Ascot in the Buckingham Palace (4), Royal Hunt Cup (3), Wokingham and Britannia.
  • Two winners ran in the Bunbury Cup, finishing unplaced and second.
  • Seven of the last 10 winners had won a race that season.
  • None of the last 10 favourites have been successful with only one placed.
  • Nine of the last 10 winners have been priced between 7-1 and 18-1 with three returning at single figure SPs.

    Summary

A bad race for favourites but not a contest where the winners have been unfathomable with only Al Muheer returned at longer than 18-1.

Although none of them have won this season, Excellent Guest, Edinburgh Knight and Lightning Cloud all make plenty of appeal.

Last year's winner, Bronze Prince, has a poor run to overcome while Eton Forever ticks a number of the right boxes but may be a shade too high in the ratings off 109.

Following his good run at Newmarket, Paul d'Arcy's charge will be racing from the same perch as his rival in future and is taken to atone for his disappointing run over a mile in the Royal Hunt Cup.

Five winners have been rated between 99 and 106 suggesting this is a handicap in which class does come to the fore while his record over seven furlongs reads three wins, a second and a length fourth from five attempts at the trip.
