Man On The Spot previews Saturday afternoon's action from the three meetings covered on More4.
1415 Sandown Piper Heidsieck Champagne Handicap
FACE THE PROBLEM was unfancied for his belated seasonal debut at Doncaster but came out best well ahead of the re-opposing Solemn and Jarrow. Kieren Fallon replaces an apprentice here which suggests better is expected from Jamie Osborne's charge and he gets the nod. Piscean scored at Newmarket last time and has won off higher marks than today on the Polytrack while recent Newbury winner Rowe Park remains on a winning mark on his best form. Last year's winner of this, Ajjaadd, is 9lb higher today and out of sorts but Kyleakin Lass is holding her form despite creeping up the weights.
1430 Chester Golden Square Shopping Centre Warrington Chester Stakes
Communicator has gone up 9lb for his easy win over 1m4f here a fortnight ago. He has to come into the reckoning but MIDSUMMER SUN is just preferred. Sir Henry Cecil's colt finished behind Quest For Peace, who has since gone in again, in a Group 3 at Goodwood last month but should find this easier. Mohedian Lady is another dropping back into handicap company and has claims on her earlier fourth at Haydock while Area Fifty One had Tominator and Icon Dream behind when fifth in last Saturday's Ebor and he should go well again. Rosslyn Castle will appreciate today's slower ground and could also be thereabouts.
1450 Sandown Candy Kittens Solario Stakes
Master Of War arrives on the back of a second to Heavy Metal in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood. Stepping up a furlong and back on fast ground, he may be worth taking on and Tha'Ir looks to have every chance. The latter was beaten a length over 7f in the Vintage Stakes also at Goodwood last month with Chilworth Icon a below par ninth and he should go close. All ground comes alike to Hasopop, an impressive winner at Newmarket in July and he makes more appeal than Dont Bother Me and Mocenigo, but the vote goes to FANTASTIC MOON. He beat subsequent winner Snowboarder over today's trip at Newmarket on his debut and trainer Jeremy Noseda knows what's needed to land this having won last year's renewal with Talwar.
1505 Chester Chester Standard Handicap
VERSE OF LOVE looks most likely to run his race in a big field. He made all at Epsom during the week, should get a clean break from his low draw and an apprentice negates his 6lb penalty. Alejandro could also take up a decent position from his decent draw having finished third over C&D a fortnight ago. He makes most appeal of Richard Fahey's four runners ahead of Brae Hill but the likes of Powerful Presence, Strictly Silver and Toto Skyllachy will need luck in-running from their high stall numbers. Bannock is preferred to stablemate Galician and Imperial Djay usually runs well at this track.
1525 Sandown Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Atalanta Stakes
Ladys First just managed to hold off Dank in a Listed race at Haydock last month and they're closely matched on that running. Moone's My Name, Villeneuve and a below par Irish History were all well behind in the same race but FALLS OF LORA had earlier beaten Ladys First over C&D despite giving her 6lb. The Godolphin filly has since been defeated over 1m2f in France but gets the tentative vote back at this track. Clinical has claims on her seasonal debut win at Epsom while Making Eyes picked up a Listed race in France in July but this is tougher. Gathering has yet to threaten in Pattern company while the likes of Dalkova, Princess Of Orange and Sweetnessandlight all step up in class.
1540 Chester Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Combermere Fillies' Conditions Stakes
Mandy Layla was quickly away over 5f here last time and stayed on well for victory. However, similar tactics could see her set up the race for HOODNA. The latter picked up nicely to score by a couple of lengths at Kempton on her debut and course specialist Franny Norton takes over the reins on the Godolphin filly. Queen Aggie and Coincidently also made winning debuts though the former has the better of today's draw while Sylvia Pankhurst was placed in both previous starts here and won at Catterick on her latest outing. All On Red drops in class but will need the gaps to appear if she's held up as normal.
1600 Sandown Piper Heidsieck Champagne & Levy Board Handicap
VALIANT was worth a try in Group 3 company at Newbury last time but found the soft ground against him. He'd earlier won in good style a York and is worth another chance on only his fourth start. Mijhaar was sent off favourite for the John Smith's Cup at York and was going well until clipping heels and nearly falling. He looks sure to figure with a clear run but the handicapper is loathed to do any favours for Start Right despite his long losing run and stablemate Man Of Action is preferred. Luca Cumani has won this a couple of times in recent years so Fulgur and Indian Jack should be noted for any support but will need to improve on their latest efforts while Licence To Till makes most appeal of the Johnston runners and Fadhaa should also go well.
1615 Beverley Betfred Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes
This was won last year by Tangerine Trees, who went on to Prix De L'Abbaye glory. Dinkum Diamond was a close third a year ago and gained his first subsequent success at Nottingham last time in a race that should have a bearing here. Runner-up that day was MASAMAH, the 2011 King George winner, who was conceding 8lb and beaten narrowly. He has been hampered by his Group 2 penalty for most of the season but conditions are in his favour here and he can gain his first victory since that Goodwood success. Move In Time wasn't far behind at Nottingham and as that was his first start in ten weeks he looks certain to give a good account. Pepper Lane is a very useful handicapper as we saw in the Great St Wilfrid but was previously well beaten in Listed company while the speedy Confessional has a high draw to overcome and Tim Easterby may have a better chance with Ponty Acclaim. Pabusar has only won once in 15 starts but is a regular at this level while Borderlescott is drawn best of all and though on a long losing run he's perfectly capable of playing a part in what should be a cracking sprint.
