Shareta: Has better acceleration than last year

Alain de Royer-Dupre is confident last year's Arc runner-up Shareta will return to Longchamp a stronger filly next month following her course-and-distance victory in Sunday's Prix Vermeille.

The daughter of Sinndar beat all bar runaway winner Danedream in Europe's premier middle-distance prize last October when she was a big outsider, having been beaten in the Vermeille on her previous start.

Although she was held on her first three starts this season, Shareta appears to be coming good at exactly the right time as she landed the Yorkshire Oaks prior to collecting her second Group One prize at the weekend.

She has five lengths to make up on Danedream on last year's Arc running, while there are plenty of other major dangers, but Royer-Dupre believes his filly is in better shape than she was this time 12 months ago.

"She has come back well and I am very pleased with her," said the trainer.

"She had a good preparation leading up to the race after wining at York and now we can look forward to the Arc again.

"I think she is a stronger filly than last year and has better acceleration as well.

"There are some very good fillies in the Arc again. Obviously Danedream will be back and I have been very impressed with Snow Fairy."

The trainer could well have another interesting Arc contender on his hands in the grey colt Reliable Man.

He was well beaten in the race last year, but has raised his game as a four-year-old, running arguably a career-best when fourth in the King George at Ascot last time.

He could return to Britain for this weekend's Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial at Newbury, but has other options.

De Royer-Dupre said: "We will decide later in the week what we will do with him.

"He could go to Newbury, but there is also a race at Maisons-Laffitte, a race in Canada and then the Arc, so we will see."
