The first day of Ayr's William Hill Gold Cup meeting has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.
Nearly 10 millimetres of rain fell overnight at the course, with more forecast throughout the day.
An impromptu 8am inspection was called by officials and almost immediately the decision was taken to call off proceedings.
However, as yet no inspection is planned for racing on Friday with acting clerk of the course Harriet Graham confident racing will take place.
Iain Ferguson, Ayr's head of public relations, said: "Racing has been abandoned today.
"There's standing water on the track and with more rain forecast it is unlikely to clear in time.
"Our clerk of the course Harriet Graham is, however, confident that racing will take place tomorrow and as yet there is no inspection planned, although we will keep everyone posted if that changes."
A 6.30am precautionary inspection was later announced for Friday's meeting when the weather is due to improve significantly.
Ferguson added: "We've got another eight millimetres forecast today but from 6pm tonight is is supposed to be dry and be dry for the rest of the weekend.
"Harriet is confident we'll go ahead tomorrow if the forecast is correct.
"The track hasn't been raced on since the middle of August but the standing water sealed our fate today.
"We are hopeful and confident that if the forecast is correct we'll be fine."
