Jim Bolger: Third consecutive win in the race

Jim Bolger: Third consecutive win in the race

Light Heavy powered home to land the P.W. McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown.

Jim Bolger has a fine recent record in the race, and the recent course winner repeated the victory of stablemate Banimpire last season.

Kevin Manning had him in a perfect position in third for a long way and he was able to sweep past the pacemaking pair of Athens and Tower Rock with a furlong left to run.

From the point on he was never likely to be caught and it was a relatively bloodless victory for the 3-1 chance.

Favourite David Livingston (7-4) was settled further back in the early stages by Joseph O'Brien but was quite keen and didn't see his race out as strongly, and it was John Oxx's Call To Battle (2-1) who stayed on best of the rest to take the forecast spot.

Bolger said: "I think Light Heavy will go to the Curragh (Irish Derby). We like him, he only does what he has to, he's a very laid-back horse.

"He's a good moving horse, hardy, laid back yet he still responds when he's asked.

"He'll come back for the Derrinstown (Stud Derby Trial), all being well. He has a fine turn of foot, there are no negatives with him."

Bolger reported his Dewhurst stakes winner Parish Hall to be on course for Classic duty at Newmarket.

"He's well, he'll go straight to the Guineas," he added.
