William Buick tracked the pace set by Ryan Moore on Clive Cox's Poet (15-8)and moved through to challenge for the lead with two furlongs to run.
It seemed to take an age to master the eventual runner-up who was brave but in the end it was Gosden's son of Azamour (100-30) who prevailed.
Favourite Twice Over was quite keen early on for Tom Queally and ran well in third, but never looked like justifying his odds of 6-4 favourite.
