Tate charge does it again

Prince Of Johanne (16-1) won the Royal Hunt Cup for Tom Tate and John Fahy at Royal Ascot.

The six-year-old won the Cambridgeshire last season but defied his 9lb-higher mark here in fine style as he swept to the front under Fahy to win by half a length.

Excellent Guest (33-1) travelled well under Tom Queally but had to make do for second, with Don't Call Me (50-1) third and Field Of Dream (66-1) a fast-finishing fourth.

The victory was a first at Royal Ascot for both trainer and jockey - and remarkably Tate's first winner of the current Flat season.

Tate said: "I only train good horses!

"He's a grand horse and he likes the mile and fast ground. He showed a lot of speed to win the Cambridgeshire and his form is there.

"I read in the newspaper that it was 1949 the last time a horse won the Cambridgeshire and this race, so that was a bit of a dampener for our hopes!

"John rides him well and he's a very good rider."

Asked about future plans, Tate said: "Let's live for today."
