Hot favourite Danadana gave Luca Cumani his second tyregiant.com Zetland Gold Cup in three years after a cool ride from Kieren Fallon at Redcar.
A lightly-raced colt with the potential to be better than a handicapper, Danadana went off at just 5-4 after a cosy success at Newmarket last time.
Fallon looked poised to strike for some time during the mile and a quarter, passing long-time leader Navajo Chief with a couple of furlongs remaining and setting sail for home.
Sir Mark Prescott's Mid Mon Lady came with a flying late finish to pass the post just a head behind, while Saeed Bin Suroor's Con Artist completed a clean sweep of the places for Newmarket stables.
Cumani won the event with the smart Forte Dei Marmi in 2010Fallon told Racing UK: "My fellow picked up well for me. He kicked and flew clear and I was waiting for something to peg me back.
"I couldn't tell you about plans - you'd have to talk to Mr Cumani - but this was a race he'd had in mind for a while. It's a great handicap with good prize money.
"I'd hope he'd stay further."
