William Haggas enjoyed a birthday treat as Rosdhu Queen landed the Jaguar Cars Lowther Stakes at York.
The race was run in showery rain but the daughter of Invincible Spirit made her way smartly from the stalls to take a prominent position and having been sent on clear with over a furlong to go, she responded well to Richard Hughes' urgings to see off Baileys Jubilee and Royal Rascal.
Haggas said: "That wasn't the plan, we were going to ride her for third and hope that we got lucky.
"I don't normally run them back this quick but Steve Parkin who owns her is a Yorkshireman and so am I, so what have we got to lose? We may as well have some fun, it's what we do it for."
Ryan Moore ordinarily rides the filly but his injury gave a chance to Richard Hughes who took full advantage.
Hughes added: "Plan A was to drop her in and ride her to get the trip, but we landed in front and I wasn't going to pull her back.
"A furlong out I gave her a kick and she kept going."
Baileys Jubilee had looked a smart recruit at the start of the campaign and kept on well enough to chase the winner. She is a half-sister to a winner over a mile so it will be interesting to see whether Mark Johnston elects to step her up in trip.
Royal Rascal was held in a nursery off a mark of 86 last time but he seems to have developed a liking for life at the Knavesmire and this has to go down as an improved performance.
City Girl looked useful when taking her maiden at Lingfield and having been held up in the initial stages, she made good headway without quite being good enough.
Pearl Sea travelled promisingly from the rear and threatened to be in the shakeup with a couple of furlongs to travel but she could only find the one pace for pressure.
Badr Al Badoor similarly made headway though was quickly eased by Hayley Turner once out of contention.
Newfangled was sent off as an even money chance for this prize but John Gosden's filly appeared to lose her action badly after a furlong and was quickly pulled up. The filly was taken to the racecourse stables and was reported to have cracked her pelvis.
