Verdict

Hardly the ideal getting-out stakes as almost half the field haven't had a run this year. Apart from Mubaraza, only beaten a short-head over a mile here in October, all have managed a win, however, and Samba King is chasing a hat-trick after following up his Yarmouth maiden success with another victory under a big weight on heavy ground at Sandown. He has to go on the short-list, despite a further rise in the weights, and Mickael Barzalona is his regular partner. Mahmood Al Zarooni also saddles Gold Rally but he was last on his reappearance at Newbury while Cravat is another to disappoint this term. Sparkling Portrait did well to hold off a persistent challenger at Beverley, however, and could be worth following while the ground remains on the soft side of good and Deia Sunrise is open to further improvement, though he may need a faster surface. OPEN WATER may have come up against a decent sort in Main Sequence in a nursery here in October but stayed on stoutly and should pick up some decent prize money this year - he's the tentative selection in this.
