WEST END LAD scored over C&D in March but found himself making the running in soft ground at Newcastle last time. He faded inside the final furlong on that occasion but should get a good tow round for committed front-runner Figaro here. The latter is having his first start since winning at Nottingham in October and may also prefer a faster surface. Glass Mountain was beaten only a head at Yarmouth on his return and makes more appeal than Veiled Applause, who drops back in distance having won at Thirsk last time while Calaf has plenty to find with the selection. Follow The Flag won this in 2010 but has been well below par recently.
