Verdict

Dettori has presumably chosen Wood Ditton winner Mariner's Cross ahead of SWEDISH SAILOR on account of the fact that he's had a run this year and is bred to appreciate the extra quarter-mile today. But Barzalona's mount, impressive on soft ground at Yarmouth in October when beating last month's Newbury winner Noble Mission, is a half-brother to three middle-distance winners in France and should also thrive over longer trips this term - he can edge out his stablemate. Mister Music, second in the Derby Trial at Lingfield 10 days ago, and Prince Alzain, who was runner-up to Talwar at Lingfield, look exposed but Stencive will improve on his third at Newbury in October and the fact that Michelangelo is started off at this level suggests he is of above-average ability.
