Verdict

An easy surface suits Smart Step and she made all to score over C&D last month. The drop back to a mile may not have suited at Doncaster subsequently and Mark Johnston's filly has to go on the short-list today. But preference is for AMAZING BLUE SKY, who has run well in both starts this season and has proved a consistent performer off this sort of mark over the last 12 months. Brockfield should now be approaching peak fitness and could make the frame but Count Bertoni still looks a shade high in the weights and was behind Newcastle runner-up Ailsa Craig over C&D in August. Doctor Zhivago doesn't win very often but is probably the pick of the remainder.
