Verdict

There have been some massive shocks in this in recent years and Granny McPhee was a 12/1 chance when scoring a year ago. She's on a 1lb lower mark this time but, unlike last year, hasn't had a previous run. Cool Macavity landed a Class 4 handicap at Sandown but couldn't cope in Class 2 grade at Goodwood and finished last. He won first time out last season and can go well here but STAND TO REASON will take some beating. A very progressive type, he looked to have plenty in hand when landing a Newbury handicap last month and though 8lb higher looks the type to go on to better things. Calaf won over the C&D in July and proved his wellbeing with a smooth success on ground with some give at Doncaster. He goes unpenalised for that victory in an apprentice event and looks the main threat.
