Verdict

ON THE FRINGE won this in 2010 and can repeat the process. A classy performer at this level, he beat the very useful Kilty Storm that day and though falling when favourite at the Festival last time that was a rare lapse and he can gain compensation. The veteran Ambobo has been in superb form between the flags but has generally failed at this level and was pulled up in a point won by today's rival Warne in February. The latter is a progressive type who will get a good ride from Derek O'Connor and is on the short-list. Equus Maximus was a big disappointment under Rules but showed his wellbeing with an easy success at Ballindenisk last month while Rudi Trucker has gone well here in the past and the 15-year-old Whyso Mayo, who won this in 2006, isn't finished yet judging by his recent win in an Open point at Bandon.
