Verdict

CAY VERDE made a promising debut in a strong maiden at Newbury and impressed when scoring at Ascot last week. Both races were on soft ground but there's no reason to believe he won't be as effective on faster going. That form looks stronger than Heavy Metal's all-the-way success at Brighton though like most of Mark Johnston's juveniles there's likely to be more to come. The filly Threes Grand scrambled home at Windsor but the form hasn't worked out badly and she will have come on for the experience as she looked very green. Rising Legend is closely related to the useful sprinter Danehurst and other winners but the biggest threat may emerge in the shape of Birdman, who is related to several speedy performers and is out of a 5f winner.
