Verdict

Six of the last nine favourites have won this and unless the market speaks in favour of a newcomer NEWSTEAD ABBEY will probably have that honour here. David Brown's colt made a fine start when narrowly beaten over the C&D in a race that has worked out well but disappointed when strongly fancied at Haydock subsequently. The fast going may have been the reason for that poor effort and today's ground can see him gain his first success. Royal Rascal made a nice start at Thirsk where she stayed on over the minimum trip and she looks best of the remainder with experience. Richard Fahey saddles a trio of newcomers and the expensive Orions Hero, the mount of Paul Hanagan, looks the main hope while Kevin Ryan's Dutch Art colt Marhaba Malayeen, a half-brother to the two-year-old winner Puddle Duck, is one to keep an eye on.
