Verdict

A maximum field contests the finale and it looks a nightmare to unravel. Global Village has been thriving on soft ground and had LIGHTNING CLOUD, Imperial Guest, Advanced and subsequent Doncaster winner Tariq Too behind when winning the Victoria Cup from a low draw over C&D last month. He'll have to come down the stands' side this time, however, and it would be no surprise if Kevin Ryan's grey came out best of that quintet today with that run under his belt. He gets the nod ahead of hat-trick seekers Primaeval and Imperial Djay as Eton Forever has been below-par so far this term. Emilio Largo was behind Bronze Prince at Lingfield two runs ago but improved to score at Ripon and is interesting from near the foot of the weights as is Docofthebay, who loves these big fields and was fifth in the race last year off a 4lb higher mark. Belgian Bill showed up well for a long way in Wednesday's Royal Hunt Cup while Castles In The Air is starting to look well handicapped and Noble Citizen came back to form behind Primaeval at Goodwood last time and could prove the pick of the remainder ahead of Haamaat.

Bronze Prince 12-1 (9-5) Led early, chased leader, led again over 2f out, ridden and headed over 1f out, chased winner until inside final furlong, weakened and lost 2 places final 100 yards, 5th of 12, 4 1/2l behind Primaeval (8-13) at Goodwood 7f hcp 0-100 (2) gf in May.

Tariq Too 7-2fav (8-7) Held up mid-division, headway over 1fg out, soon chasing leader, ran on to lead well inside final furlong, held on gamely, won at Doncaster 7f hcp 0-105 (2) sft beating Scarf (9-7) by hd, 10 ran.
