Iulus was beaten in a Leicester seller last time and now sports headgear. He's difficult to fancy in this grade while Gold Rules, though starting to look well handicapped, was well behind Carragold over a mile here last month. Mel Brittain's six-year-old can't be ignored while King Of The Celts is only a pound higher than when third over C&D earlier this month. Redcar fourth Count Bertoni could be vulnerable on this softer going, however, and we prefer PINTRADA. He's been taking on better company in the main and his best recent effort came on soft ground at Chester last month.
Carragold 5-1fav (9-4) Held up mid-division, pushed along over 4f out, headway over 3f out, kept on final furlong, 4th of 17, 3 1/2l behind Edmaaj (9-1) at York 1m 1f hcp 0-80 (4) sft.
King Of The Celts (IRE) 33-1 (9-2) In touch, chased leading trio over 4f out, went 3rd 3f out, ridden and kept on final 2f, never reached leaders, 3rd of 8, 4l behind Landaman (9-13) at Beverley 1m 2f hcp 0-75 (5) gf.
Count Bertoni (IRE) 12-1 (9-5) With leader, led over 2f out, ridden well over 1f out, headed inside final furlong, soon weakened, 4th of 11, 6l behind Al Furat (8-4) at Redcar 1m 1f hcp 0-75 (5) gf.
Pintrada 8-1 (8-10) Tracked leaders, took keen hold, led 8f out, headed over 2f out, weakening when short of room soon after, last of 13, 37l behind Number Theory (8-12) at Haydock 1m 4f hcp 0-85 (4) gf in May.
Gold Rules 28-1 (8-11) Soon led, driven over 3f out, headed over 2f out, weakened, 9th of 14, 11l behind Tartan Gigha (9-5) at Carlisle 1m 3f hcp 0-80 (4) gf.
Iulus 2-1fav (9-6) Led, ridden and joined over 3f out, headed narrowly over 1f out, driven inside final furlong, no extra near finish, 2nd of 8, 3/4l behind Mighty Clarets (9-6) at Leicester 1m 2f sell stks (6) sft.
