Aaron Cook: Reportedly not selected

Team GB Taekwondo have delayed the announcement of their Olympic squad, which was set for Friday, amid reports European champion Aaron Cook had not been selected.

Taekwondo is one of the host nations' leading hopes for London having delivered four medals at the 2011 World Championships in Korea, including gold for Sarah Stevenson, who is currently recovering from a knee operation.

However, it has been reported Cook, who made the controversial decision to train outside the elite programme at the GB Academy after a disappointing display in Korea, failed to make final selection for the London Olympic squad despite retaining his under-80kg European title in Manchester earlier this month and is set to appeal.

Liverpudlian Martin Stamper is expected to get the nomination for the under-68kgs category, and Wales teenager Jade Jones at under-57kgs.

Should Stevenson, bronze medallist in Beijing, not be fit in time for the Games, then understudy Bianca Walkden would step down into the under-67kgs.

Neither Team GB Taekwondo nor the British Olympic Association have yet made any official comment, with no new date for the squad announcement confirmed.
