British 800 metres runner Joe Thomas has revealed he will miss the Olympics through injury.

The 24-year-old Welsh athlete has been ruled out for the season with a stress fracture to his left shin.

Thomas, who won the UK indoor title in February, tweeted: "No Olympics or track season for me this year. A few lengthy battles with niggles has resulted in a stress fracture."
