Michael Whitaker: Second in Portugal

Michael Whitaker: Second in Portugal

British showjumper Michael Whitaker continued his rich vein of form at the Estoril Global Champions Tour grand prix in Portugal.

Whitaker, whose omission from Great Britain's Olympic team has mystified many, finished second behind Germany's Philipp Weishaupt.

Six combinations made the jump-off, and German Olympic rider Weishaupt's time of 44.96 seconds on Leoville 2 edged Whitaker and Viking into second, with Ludger Beerbaum and Chaman third.

Whitaker, winner of the Aachen Grand Prix in Germany last Sunday, has won almost £150,000 in prize money during the past seven days.
